Pour chaque valeur de f imposée par le programme, on fait une moyenne sur 1 seconde de la fréquence effectivement émise par le générateur et du signal retour. On se rend rapidement compte que la moyenne du signal retour fluctue trop (du fait de perturbations extérieures) pour être utilisée, mais que cependant le bruit sur cette moyenne semble un caractère très pertinent pour repérer l'extinction. En effet, quand il n'y a plus de signal, il n'y a plus non plus de fluctuations d'amplitude du retour! Cet aspect éclaté du faisceau était en fait dû à une optique de notre expérience qui avait brûlé sous l'effet du flux lumineux intense. Ce n'est rien par rapport aux lampes de 60 ou 100W que vous pouvez trouver chez vous. On profite des quelques heures qui nous restent avant le tir inaugural pour faire quelques mesures de c.&lt;br /&gt;Le signal que l'on reçoit et que l'on analyse est visible sur les photos jointes.&lt;br /&gt;En jaune sur l'écran on a une représentation de l'intensité lumineuse envoyée vers la basilique. Quand le signal est haut, l'intensité est maximale. Lorsqu'il est bas, le faisceau est éteint. Le faisceau est donc haché à la fréquence affichée en bas à droite de l'écran (cette fréquence est très grande, ici qq kHz, c'est pourquoi notre oeil ne perçoit pas le clignotement).&lt;br /&gt;En bleu sur les images est représenté le signal qui revient de l'église après un second passage dans le hacheur. Il est décalé par rapport au signal jaune d'environ 18 microsecondes. Sur ce délai, 2 microsecondes sont dues uniquement à notre montage électrique, et les 16 autres au temps que met la lumière pour faire un aller-retour. La distance exacte parcourue D est de 2 fois 2423,18 m (mesurée à 3 centimètres près par les étudiants de l'ESGN, on vous le rappelle) donc la vitesse de la lumière est à peu près V=D/temps=300000km/s.&lt;br /&gt;Pour plus de précision, on mesure la fréquence exacte de hachage du faisceau pour que le faisceau qui est passé à l'aller retrouve le hacheur exactement fermé au retour, donc que le signal bleu soit éteint. Il est en effet facile d'observer l'extinction de la lumière, et la mesure de la vitesse d'ouverture et de fermeture peut-être très précise avec nos instruments.&lt;br /&gt;Sur les photos on remarque que lorsque l'on augmente la fréquence de hachage, de 8 à 20, puis 30 kHz, la durée d'allumage du faisceau retour est de plus en plus courte. L'avant de l'impulsion lumineuse passe dans le hacheur, mais sa queue est coupé! Aujourd'hui, pour 30,954kHz le signal a quasiment disparu. Pas exactement, car le temps d'ouverture et de fermeture du hacheur de même que la rapidité du détecteur nous limitent. Pour la même raison d'ailleurs on voit un autre petit pic apparaître sur la 3ème photo. Il correspond à de la lumière qui passe dans le hacheur lors de son ouverture suivante! D'ailleurs si on augmente encore la vitesse de hachage (45kHZ sur la dernière photo) on voit la lumière qui réapparait très clairement. Cette fois-ci c'est l'avant de l'impulsion lumineuse qui est coupée, et sa queue qui passe dans l'ouverture suivante.&lt;br /&gt;On peut en déduire pour l'instant une vitesse de la lumière V=4xFxD=&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;300020km/s&lt;/span&gt;! C'est un peu haut par rapport à la vitesse de la lumière dans le vide c=299792,458km/s, mais la précision de notre lecture du signal nous dit que nous connaissons V &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;à 290km/s près&lt;/span&gt;. La valeur officielle de c est bien incluse dans notre barre d'erreur. Du coup, on a tout rangé dans la salle. Un groupe d'étudiants de l'école place des théodolites partout autour de l'expérience afin de mesurer la distance exacte entre chaque élément optique de la table par triangulation. Ils peuvent nous donner la distance parcourue par la lumière au centimètre près.&lt;br /&gt;Vu le nombre de mesures prises, il leur faudra bien jusqu'à demain pour nous donner leur valeur finale. En attendant on peut en avoir une idée approchée au mètre près en regardant de près la photo ci-dessus.&lt;br /&gt;Cela ramène la mesure de c effectuée la semaine dernière à 300.400 +- 5000 km/s.&lt;br /&gt;C'est déjà mieux. On en envoie jusqu'à 9W dans le ciel, mais la propreté de l'air ce soir là et les éclairages du Vieux Port font que le test est peu concluant. Même de jour, on voit bien la tâche sur la statue, mais on devine mal le trajet du laser.&lt;br /&gt;On remarque par ailleurs qu'à partir d'un certain seuil de puissance, un trou apparaît au coeur du faisceau; la tâche sur Notre Dame de la Garde a une forme de beignet. Non seulement la lumière revient, mais il nous a été possible de faire une première évaluation de la vitesse de la lumière, selon la technique de Fizeau!&lt;br /&gt;c = 315.000 +- 5.000 km/s&lt;br /&gt;C'est un peu beaucoup certes, mais c'est en utilisant une distance "St-Charles/Notre-Dame" récupérée à la va-vite sur Google Map de 2,55 km.&lt;br /&gt;Par hasard, c'est aussi la valeur qu'avait obtenu Fizeau... il y a plus de 150 ans!
